Akira Nakai (中井 啓) is a Japanese automotive tuner born in Chiba, Japan, best known as the founder of the Porsche tuning company RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF (RWB) — German for "Rough World Concept." Before Porsches, he was a drifter and a member of the Mid Night Club, the infamous underground highway racing group that operated on Tokyo's expressways in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and part of a loose collective called Rough World: a group of Toyota AE86 drivers known for aggressive driving, low stances and matte paint.

In the late 1990s, Nakai was working at a Porsche specialty body shop in Japan when he founded RWB, which specializes in radical wide-body conversions of classic air-cooled Porsche 911 models. What sets him apart is his hands-on, low-tech approach: there are no CAD drawings, no computer measurements, no team of technicians. He uses an angle grinder, masking tape, and decades of experience. He cuts the fenders himself, fits the overfenders himself, and gives each car a name before he leaves.

Nakai personally travels worldwide to build each car on location, making every RWB Porsche a bespoke, one-of-a-kind creation. His work has earned a global cult following, blending Japanese drift culture with German engineering.

RWB/RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF is a Porsche tuner located in Japan.
RWB has combined Japanese and Euro tuning elements, creating the distinct RWB style for Porsche chassis. RAUH-Welt 911’s are now a common sight on both the streets and racing circuits of Japan.
We create only one RWB Porsche for each customer.
